(GMS) — February is National Parent Leadership Month! This whole month is dedicated to honoring the tireless efforts of our parents and those who have step forth as examples for their peers.
In observation of the month, the Green Meadow School administrative and teaching staff have held short but meaningful leadership seminars online via Zoom every Friday of this month so far.
Each seminar had a unique topic that served a small reminder to all the parents in attendance.
The first meeting on Feb. 5 touched on the topic of responsibility.
GMS president Glenn Songcuan, assisted by 4th grade class advisor Rosalie Habijan, shared a number of roles and duties that parents are (and are not!) responsible for.
The following meeting on Feb. 12, teachers Lorelisa Espiritu and Bona Angeles covered the importance of emergency preparedness and shared the emergency plans and policy in place at Green Meadow.
The most recent meeting was held Friday, Feb. 19, with the Division of Youth Services presenting about the topic of child abuse and neglect.
This is a sensitive subject so parents and school staff need to be aware about it in order to identify potential cases of abuse and neglect and act accordingly.
This special presentation was conducted by DYS representatives Juanicia Villanueva and Melycher Sablan.
GMS principal Milagros Songcuan has taken the opportunity to share her own personal experiences and findings on parent leaders.
Former parent leaders for GMS were invited to speak and share their experiences and how they overcame their hardships. Mr. Will and Mrs. Gemma Pamintuan were invited to share and spoke of the importance of discipline when raising a child.
The final meeting was set for Friday, Feb. 26. GMS will be awarding its parents certificates to acknowledge their efforts.
Former Department of Cultural and Community Affairs Secretary and now the governor’s senior policy advisor, Robert Hunter, will be the guest speaker.
Thorough the meetings, GMS shared the calendar events that are being hosted by government agencies such as the Public School System, DYS, and DCCA.
