Alain Hallez , who is diving with Fish & Fins in an interview on Friday, said that the happy return ended his worry who was certain that he has lost his wallet for good.
Hallez said that on April 7, carrying his backpack containing his wallet stuffed with his passport, credit cards, $250 cash and 500 Euros decided to visit one of the commercial shopping establishment in Palau.
He said that he was certain that he has placed his wallet inside his bag when he returned to his hotel.
The next day, he couldn’t find it and frantically searched for the missing wallet.
Hallez then sought the help of Tova Harel- Bornovski, operator of the dive shop to report the incident to the police.
Ten minutes after the Bureau of Public Safety Director was rushing to the dive shop to return the wallet.
Hallez said it was a gesture he will never forget as the Good Samaritan who forwarded the wallet to the police station returned the billfold with every last dollar.
“People in Palau are very nice, if this happened in Paris where I am from, it is not possible,” Hallez said.
He said the cash being taken is the least of his worry; he was more concerned about his passport.
“It is incredible, people in Palau are very honest,” Hallez said.
Bornovski said that she learned that the wallet was found near the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center.
She said the Good Samaritan gave it to Bilung Gloria Salii who then handed over it immediately to the police station.
This is the second time that Hallez visited in Palau, his first visit was in 1999.
