Governor OKs Tinian appropriation bills

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres on Wednesday signed into law House Local Bill 22-36 to appropriate $250,000 in casino fees for the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission and Tinian Mayor’s Office.

Authored by Rep. Patrick San Nicolas, the measure is now Tinian Local Law 22-09.

The $250,000 was paid by Bridge Investment Group, the company that built Tinian Diamond Casino earlier this year. Located at the Tinian harbor, it is expected to open before the end of the year.

It was the Tinian municipal treasurer who identified the amount as “supplemental local revenue” pursuant to Tinian Local Law 21- 9, or the Revised Tinian Casino Gaming Control Act.

According to the new local law, $200,000 goes to TCGCC while $50,000 is for the Tinian Mayor’s Office.

Poker fees

The governor also approved House Local Bill 22-35, which appropriates $140,000 in poker fees for the Tinian Municipal Scholarship Program and the Tinian Mayor’s Office.

Authored by San Nicolas, the local bill is now T.L.L. 22-08.

Of the $140,000, $110,000 will go to the Tinian Mayor’s Office while $30,000 is for the municipal scholarship program.
