GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres on Friday congratulated Rep. Tina Sablan for being chosen as the NMI Democratic Party candidate for the 2022 gubernatorial election.
“I want to wish her [and] everyone who puts their name on the 2022 ballot [well],” he said.
The governor said he is looking forward to a clean campaign from all candidates running in next year’s general elections.
“We wish to have a good campaign moving forward,” he added.
Torres, a Republican, is seeking reelection with Senate Floor Leader Vinnie F. Sablan as his running mate.
Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios, for his part, is running as an independent with Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang as running mate.
As for Rep. Tina Sablan, she said she will announce her running mate “in the coming days.”
According to the CNMI Constitution, if no gubernatorial candidate receives more than one half of the total votes cast, “a runoff election shall be held between the candidates…receiving the highest and second highest number of votes cast and counted….”
