REPUBLICAN Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, who is seeking a second term in November, said his main concern is “to move forward” with his mandate.
Torres’ running mate is Senate Floor Leader Vinnie F. Sablan.
Their opponents are the independent team of Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, and the Democratic tandem of Reps. Tina Sablan and Leila Staffler.
“That’s my least concern: who’s stronger or who’s weaker,” Torres said. “My concern is to move forward on what my mandate is. People voted for me to do what I need to do.”
He said he continues to focus on giving retirees 100% of their pension and hopefully, a $1,000 bonus.
Moreover, he said he continues to work to revive the local economy, reopen the local tourism industry, provide more job opportunities for the youth, and build stronger relationships with federal partners such as the U.S. Department of Defense.
“I have so much things that’s moving for me to worry who’s stronger or weaker. So, again, [those are my priorities], not just me as a governor, but I do know that Senator Vinnie has worked so hard as a man of integrity and we are moving forward in making sure that our youth gets an opportunity when they graduate to help rebuild our economy, and we’re also working with our hospital to expand our hospital. This is the right time to do it. We do have a good vision moving forward: ‘Stronger together,’” the governor added.
