Last week several schools, from kinder, elementary, high school and college conducted their commencement exercises to complete a very important task for the students.
At the Palau Community there were over 120 students who marched and graduated last Friday.The 2009 PCC graduating class of 2009 and the Adult High School students shared the limelight with bachelor’s degree candidates of San Diego State University (SDSU) as well as one student of the Ministry of Health’s Counseling Program.Former Guam Delegate to the US House of Representatives and current University of Guam President Dr. Robert Underwood was the graduation’s commencement speaker.In his speech, Underwood spoke to the graduates about the challenges they face as 21st Century Micronesians. “Whether you are from Palau or from Yap in the FSM, you are 21st century Micronesians. You face many personal challenges while you deal with the opportunity to build a nation, to design its bureaucracy, to manage its economy, to remember its past everyday and not just during cultural celebrations; all the while worrying about climate change,” Underwood said.For school year 2008-2009, there are a total of 374 graduating students in Palau while there are 338 promoted students.On Sunday the Palau Mission Academy (PMA) held their graduation at Ngarachamayong Cultural Center with 25 students graduating.Yesterday, Maristella, Ngiwal, Aimeliik, Ngaraard, Ngadrmau, G.B. Harris, Melekeok, Ngchesar Elementary Schools held their promotional days.Emmaus, Meyuns, Ngeremlengui, Airai, Ngarchelong, and Koror Elementary schools will hold their commencement exercises.
