Guam to join world’s largest earthquake drill

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Great ShakeOut earthquake drill taking place this October across the world will also be practiced on Guam with the offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense encouraging residents on island to participate.

The Great Guam ShakeOut is an exercise to teach people what to do in case of an earthquake.

At 10:19 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, Guam’s residents are urged to practice the one-minute drop, cover and hold on response procedure at any location. GHS/OCD hopes the drills spread awareness about how to prepare during earthquakes.

The event aims to “to evaluate emergency plans, increase awareness of earthquake safety, and improve resiliency within (the) community,” according to GHS/OCD.

Registration is available online at https://www.shakeout.org/guam/.
