GWA issues water conservation, precautionary boil water notices

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Guam Waterworks Authority has issued a conservation advisory for residents in the Yigo, Dededo and Barrigada areas, and a precautionary boil water notice for residents in the Mount Santa Rosa area in Yigo.

“Due to persistent issues with power quality since Friday, March 8, several GWA deep wells have sustained damage, and production at many others has been disrupted. This damage has caused low reservoir levels and reduced pressure in isolated areas. GWA asks for the public’s assistance in conserving water while we address these issues and return reservoir levels to normal,” GWA announced in a press release.

“Chlorine residual levels remain normal, however, out of an abundance of caution, a precautionary boil water notice is issued for the Santa Rosa area. GWA appreciates the public’s patience while power stability in these areas is addressed and normal water service is restored,” GWA added in the release.

For Mount Santa Rosa residents, the water utility stated that portions of its water system have experienced reduced pressure due to disruptions in its water production operations, and that may pose a risk to customers because low pressure increases the risk of contaminants entering the water distribution system.

“Out of an abundance of caution, GWA issues this precautionary boil water notice for the Mount Santa Rosa service area while GWA restores the water system,” the utility said in the release.

“This advisory is being issued as a precaution while GWA works to bring all production facilities back into service and replenish water tank levels to increase pressure in the system. As production and pressure in the system is restored, GWA will ensure that the system is sampled and tested, and chlorine levels and pressures have been confirmed to be within acceptable levels,” GWA said in the release.
