The suspect was identified as Suzuki Temael, a prisoner at the Koror Jail.
Temael escaped from his cell on August 16 and burglarized the establishment and stole liquor, cigarettes and grocery items worth $980.75.
Temael and his co-defendant Uldak Sakuma was charged last month. They were summoned to appear in court on October 8 at 2:30 pm to answer their charges.
Temael was charged with aggravated assault, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, escape, burglary, grand larceny, malicious mischief and robbery.
Sakuma was charged with accessory after the fact to escape, aiding and abetting grand larceny and obstruction of justice.
The affidavit of probable cause stated that on August 16 a possible burglary in progress at the Happy Fish Market was reported to the police.
Temael was seen by a witness trying to break the glass door of 7-Eat Store and went around the Happy Fish Market when he failed to break the glass door of the 7-Eat Store.
The witness then saw Temael carrying a heavy plastic container full of bottles and was being loaded into a car driven by Sakuma.
The witness flagged a patrol car and a pursuit ensued until the suspects abandoned the car at the old radio station in Malakal.
The stolen items were left in the car.
The affidavit stated that police received later a report of an injured person at the Happy Fish Market.
When police responded to the scene they found the security guard identified as Tohedul Islam with injuries.
The guard was immediately transported to the hospital. He suffered bone fractures and hematoma and hemorrhage in the tempo parietal area.
Investigation disclosed that the guard was attacked by Temael with a stick.
The court document further stated that Sakuma was engaged in drinking session earlier when Temael appeared.
Sakuma knew that Temael escaped from jail that evening. Temael told Sakuma that he needed a car.
Sakuma borrowed a friend’s car and dropped off Temael at the Happy Fish Market and waited for the latter at the car.
Sakuma fell asleep and was awakened by a sound of yelling. He saw Temael putting a container into the back seat of the car.
Sakuma then drove off the car but abandoned it later and fled on foot from the pursuing police.
Temael on the other hand swam to RITC and was given a ride back to the place where Sakuma was drinking earlier.
Temael returned later to his unlocked jail cell.
The affidavit stated that Temael admitted of escaping from jail and burglarizing the Happy Fish Market and assaulting the guard.
