INDIGENOUS rights advocate Raymond Quitugua is inviting members of the public, especially the indigenous people, to join him in a protest action across from the CNMI judicial building in Susupe today, Tuesday, May 9.
This time, he said he plans to display not only an inverted U.S. flag, but an inverted CNMI flag as well.
“We have tried, but to no avail, to reach out to the lawmakers of the CNMI and to Gov. Arnold I. Palacios himself,” Quituga told Variety.
Last week, during a protest action, Quitugua and his friend Herman Tudela displayed an inverted U.S. flag across from the United States Courthouse on Middle Road in Gualo Rai.
They said the inverted flag was “an international SOS or call for distress” because their voices as indigenous people are not being heard, and their rights are being violated.
He said there is only one indigenous people in the CNMI — the Chamorros.
