The Ministry of Health said that there has been a drop in cases encountered at the Belau National Hospital and the alternative care site at the old Olbiil Era Kelulau Building.
From August there have been 187 ILI cases with 24 patients being admitted for treatment, compared with 33 admissions in July. The ministry said that admissions are in the older age groups of 35 years and above. There have been no related deaths in Palau but there have been 38 confirmed H1N1 cases. The public is again reminded to practice good hygienic habits and exercise preventive methods to reduce the risk of getting the flu and spreading it.Due to the decrease in ILI numbers, entrance screening at the Belau National Hospital ceased yesterday. However, screening will remain in place in front of the wards at all times and inpatient visiting hours remain unchanged which is from 6 pm to 8 pm.Clinics that were suspended two weeks ago, namely surgical clinic, orthopedic clinic, gynecology clinic, prostate and breast clinics have resumed their daily hours as of yesterday. All Outpatient Department (OPD) night-time clinics remain suspended. The Ministry of Health’s Alternative Care Site (ACS) will remain open during weekdays from 8:00am until 4:00pm exclusively for flu like illness treatment. Weekend and after hours flu cases will be seen at the Emergency Room (ER).The Ministry of Health encourages parents to bring their children who experience any flu-like symptoms to the ACS for diagnosis and treatment in order to minimize their absenteeism at school. For more information about the Influenza A (H1N1) or any flu related questions, contact the H1N1 Hotline on 488-0555.
