JICA evaluates PICRC CEPRM Project

The JICA evaluation team met on Wednesday with PICRC’s CEO and staff and JICA project staff for a presentation on the project’s progress.

CEPCRM is a $2 million worth joint project of JICA and PICRC, assisting PICRC in developing a coral monitoring system to support management of the country’s Marine Protected Areas (MPA), including Micronesia Challenge jurisdictions countries, namely, FSM, RMI, Guam and CNMI.

The project runs from July 2009 to July 2012.

In a press statement, PICRC said the Project aims not only to develop a system to support the monitoring of MPAs, but also to make technical recommendations regarding MPA management, establish monitoring protocols, and enhance partnership between CEPCRM and Micronesia Challenge jurisdictions and relevant agencies.

The evaluation team is also scheduled to visit Ileakel Beluu, Ngardmau State conservation area, which is one of the selected sites for monitoring for the CEPCRM project.
