Koror and Aimeliik States Legislature held joint meeting

The Aimeliik Bul is a traditional law that anyone who will be caught harvesting betel nut, stealing public property or fishing within the State’s water will be fined and will have to perform community service. The fine for the first offense is $250, Second offense is $500 and for the third offence is $1,000 including three months community service. This law is also implemented as a way of conserving the natural resources of the state.

In the meeting held at the Koror State Assembly Hall, legislative members tackled all the issues, concerns and ideas that they are going to address to the House of Traditional leaders

Aimeliik State Legislature Speaker Teruo Rengulbai said they will try to talk to their “Rubaks” and air their concerns as they are affected by the law.

“If they listen to us they will probably amend the Bul. Many people of Aimeliik State staying in Koror are against the Aimeliik Bul because it affects us.” Rengulbai said in an interview.

Koror is the neighboring State of Aimeliik. The two states are collaborating with each other in resolving the issue.

This is the first time the two States Legislatures conducted a joint meeting.
