Kyota to visit Palauan workers in Iowa

Presidential Chief of Staff Billy Kuartei told reporters that he contacted Kyota who told him he will be scheduling a trip to Postville where about 150 Palauan workers are working.

A news report said that the future of the plant appears to be uncertain after the Agriprocessors kosher meat processing plant in Postville was hit with nearly $10 million in state penalties and its former CEO Sholom Rubashkin was arrested on charges of conspiring to hire illegal immigrants; and the meatpacker was sued by a St. Louis bank saying it had defaulted on a $35 million loan, Postville residents were waiting for the next chapter.Kuartei said Kyota is also scheduled to meet with the owner of the meatpacking plant to discuss the condition of the Palauan workers.Kuartei added that he also contacted Webster Franz, the Palauan recruiter about the welfare of the workers. He was assured by Franz that the workers are doing well and that in case the plant closed they have other options such as a plant in Minnesota and Nebraska.Kuartei said President Remengesau asked him to contact Kyota to look at the site and how the workers can be assisted.
