The seminar is organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Higher Commissioner for Human Rights and will be held starting on Oct. 22 .
The seminar is aimed at strengthening parliament’s role in the reporting process and primarily targets members of parliaments in over 20 countries including Palau.
The CEDAW is the most comprehensive international legal instrument addressing women’s rights and provides a framework for promoting gender equality.
The CEDAW is monitored by the United Nations treaty body, the committee on the elimination of discrimination against women , which examines reports from states parties and issues concluding observations and recommendations for follow-up actions.
The Senate said that several experts including a member of the committee , a member of the committee’s secretariat and a member of the parliament with experience on the field will facilitate the seminar.
