Leave benefits improvement for teachers, nurses eyed

According to Senate Bill No. 8-115, it recognizes that teachers and nurses employed by the government carry a heavy burden in maintaining the health and welfare of the people of Palau.

The bill guarantees monetary compensation to teachers and nurses for up to 120 hours of unused annual leaves accrued beyond the maximum accumulation amount.

“This modification will not only rightfully compensate current nurses for their service they provide for the country but also serve as in incentive for new workers to enter these fields in the future,” Mesebeluu said in her proposed measure.

He said the measure will encourage Palauans to take up the career as teachers and nurses.

Currently there is shortage of teachers and nurses in Palau.
