According to a media release from JKPL, proceeds raised during the fun run will support the library’s 2023 Collaborative Summer Library Program on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
The race is a partnership between the Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and Run Saipan.
Ed Dela Cruz, Run Saipan president, said a 5K event is for everyone, regardless of experience level.
“It is a short enough distance for people serious in the sport to test themselves, and far enough for newcomers to challenge themselves,” Dela Cruz added.
He said participants should use proper running shoes, come to the race hydrated, and to have fun. He added that it’s also perfectly fine to walk during the race.
“It’s great to be partnering with an amazing group of people who’ve dedicated their lives to not only the community but our children as well,” Dela Cruz said, referring to the Friends of JKPL.
Martin Naputi, president of the Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, said the Fun Run “is a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle and bring communities together.”
