Escorted by a Corrections officer, Steven Roman Tudela was brought to court for a bail hearing Monday morning.
SUPERIOR Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $10,000 cash bail on Steven Roman M. Tudela, who was charged with burglary and theft.
He is accused of entering an apartment unit and taking valuable items amounting to more than $7,000.
In the custody of the Department of Corrections, Tudela, 29, appeared before Judge Camacho for a bail hearing on Monday.
Tudela was represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen while Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.
According to the complaint against Tudela, on June 13, at around 1:46 p.m., police responded to a reported burglary and theft incident at Beach Garden in Garapan.
Investigators learned that a man, later identified as Tudela, broke into a room belonging to the owner of Beach Garden.
One of the establishment’s workers told police that he saw a man jump over the fence to enter the apartment.
Conducting a safety check in the apartment, police found Tudela inside a bathroom. The witness positively identified Tudela as the person who jumped over the fence.
After police advised him of his Miranda rights, Tudela admitted that he entered the Beach Garden owner’s apartment window and took a black MMK brand bag and placed it in another apartment. Tudela likewise admitted that he left a white and black bag worth $15.99 outside the owner’s apartment window. He said the bag contained an LG laptop and charger worth $5,000, an Apple iPad worth $2,000, a gray nylon container that contained a portable blood pressure machine, a clear Ziploc bag with foreign coins, and yellow and red pants.
After the hearing on Monday, Tudela was remanded to the custody of Corrections and was ordered to return to court on June 24 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing, and on July 1 at 9 a.m. for an arraignment.
