Commonwealth Ports Authority executive assistant and chairwoman of the workshop committee Wendi L. Prater said 134 registered but six cancelled for undisclosed reasons.
Annually, the workshop draws at least two representatives from the Northern Marianas, Guam, the Marshall Islands, American Samoa, Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia.
The workshop is a gathering of stakeholders in the airline and aviation industry and includes officials from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Prater said among the FAA officials expected to attend are Barry Brayer, special programs manager; William C. Withycombe, regional administrator; Ron Simpson, airports district office manager; Faviola Garcia, special programs officer; John Warner, FAA operations support group manager; and Sophia Tang, technical operations manager.
CPA Executive Director Edward M. Deleon Guerrero will discuss the regional Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting facility while John Sullivan, port director, will deliver a presentation on Customs and Border Protection field operations.
Aside from reports of Micronesian airport directors, there will be presentations on the Guam military buildup, air traffic organization, procedural enhancements to South Pacific island air traffic, aviation outlook in the region, wildlife assessments update, airport emergency planning, international aviation safety, runway safety program, FAA technical operations and managing airspace in the region.
Prater said Saipan hosted the workshop four times in the past, the last time in 2008.
In 2010, Hawaii co-hosted the workshop with the FAA at the Hilton Waikiki/Prince Kuhio Hotel.
