Palacios, R-Saipan, highlighted the accomplishments of the previous Youth Congress, like the anti-smoking law, and urged the 25 newly elected youth senators to be “on top of the issues and encourage healthy and informative debates among your peers.”
He said youth senators should continue to listen to each other and work as a team.
Alan Leon Guerrero was re-elected as youth speaker.
The other officers are Vice Speaker Seon Bin Lee, Floor Leader Sunny Frank Aldan and Legislative Secretary Annie C. Camacho.
Each of the youth senators were given a chance to speak about their plans, and most of them said education and career opportunities are their top priorities.
“I want the youth to realize their full potentials and continue building a strong foundation after graduating from high school,” Youth Sen. Ashley Hofschneider said.
Youth Sen. Blaren Dean, one of the freshmen members, said he wanted to familiarize himself with the current youth programs.
“I would like to address issues on underage drinking and let minors know how harmful these substances are,” he said.
