ONE-HUNDRED and fifty CNMI government officials failed to submit on time the calendar year 2001 verified statement of financial interests, according to the Office of the Public Auditor.
The deadline was set for May 1.
Public Auditor Michael S. Sablan, in an interview yesterday, said 400 public officials were able to beat the deadline, out of the total 550 individuals required to file their annual financial statements.
Out of the 400 on-time filers, 303 government officials were from Saipan. There are still 105 Saipan officials who have not submitted the required documents.
OPA said there were 47 filers from Rota, while 18 more were expected to file their financial statements. On Tinian, 46 government officials met the filing deadline, while 20 more were expected to turn in their requirements.
Only four Northern Islands officials turned in their financial statements—seven have not filed.
Sablan, however, said the Government Ethics Code Act of 1992 gives these officials a 30-day grace period to file their financial statements.
