THE board of directors of the Governor’s Development and Disabilities Council failed to meet the two-thirds vote required to remove Executive Director Tom Camacho from his post, it was learned yesterday.
The 19 members of the board voted on Tuesday to rescind the 60-day “notice without cause” terminating Camacho’s employment upon the recommendation of the Attorney General’s Office.
Two AGO lawyers were present during the meeting.
According to board member Mariano Camacho, after they rescinded the previous order, another board member raised the motion to issue the notice of termination.
Eleven members voted in favor of firing Camacho and eight voted to retain him.
The “yes” votes did not meet the two-third or 13 votes requirement to oust Camacho based on the Council’s employment policy and procedures.
Board member Camacho is happy that the executive director will be retained.
“For so many years, Mr. Camacho has done so many good things for the Council. He deserves to be retained,” he said.
