2 dead, 7 injured in 3-car collision

As of 2 p.m. yesterday, four victims were still under observation at CHC, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Police said all vehicles sustained extensive damage. Witnesses said the accident occurred shortly after 8 p.m.

“This case is still under investigation.  It has not been determined if alcohol is involved.  Speed was a factor and as of this time, no citations have been issued,” said DPS acting spokesman PO2 Jason T. Tarkong.

Police identified the victim as James Michael Sablan Ada, 33, who was pronounced dead at 10:18 p.m. by Dr. Greg Kotheimer.

His child was pronounced dead at 12:35 a.m. by Dr. Norma Ada.

The victim’s wife suffered lacerated lips and complained about pain on her right shoulder and right wrist, but refused to be admitted to the hospital, police said.

The couple’s two other children, seven and four years old, suffered injuries to the forehead and had abdominal pains.

Police said a southbound white Isuzu Rodeo, with two persons in it, triggered the three-vehicle collision.

The 33-year-old driver had laceration to the left knee and right ankle, abdominal pains, and bruise to the chest.

His 31-year-old female companion had severe  abdominal pain, and injuries to the right shoulder and chest area, police said.

Police said the driver lost control and struck the rear of a red Nissan Pathfinder, which had two passengers, including the driver.

The 20-year-old driver suffered abrasions to his left arm and left foot, and lacerated left knee. He was released from CHC after treatment, police said.

His 16-year-old female companion was not hurt, police said.

After the collision, the red Pathfinder flipped and rolled before coming to a rest on the right shoulder of the highway, across the road from the Coca Cola Company.

The Rodeo continued traveling south crossed onto the opposite northbound lane.

At that time, a red Toyota Corolla was traveling north on the inside lane when it swerved right to avoid colliding with the white Rodeo.

Police said the Rodeo struck the Corolla on the driver’s broadside.

The second impact caused the  Corolla to spin 180 degrees, and its final resting point was on the right shoulder of the outer northbound lane, outside the Coca Cola fence line.

All passengers were treated at the scene and transported to CHC for further treatment.

The driver of the Corolla was unresponsive  and had to be extricated by firefighters using the “jaws of life.”

The driver’s child was also unresponsive.
