USS Los Angeles crew to do community work today

They will be at American Memorial Park from 7:30 a.m. until noon today, and at Northern Marianas College from 3 to 5 p.m., CNMI Military Veterans Office Executive Director Ruth Coleman said.

At NMC, the crewmembers will talk with students interested in joining the Navy.

“The crewmembers will have interaction with the students. They will answer questions and provide information,” Coleman said.

From 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Coleman said the crewmembers will be treated to a no-host party at the VFW Post on Beach Road.

The USS Los Angeles carries 115 officers and crewmembers who are on island for rest and recreation. They will be leaving Saipan on Nov. 5.

The USS Los Angeles is an attack submarine currently assigned to the Pacific Fleet.

Last month, the USS Ingraham, a Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate,  docked here and its crewmembers performed did community work like cleanups, including cutting grass, trimming trees and bushes and painting rooms at NMC.

NMC students also got a chance to tour the USS Ingraham.
