2 teams prepare NMC self-evaluation report

On Nov. 29, NMC President Sharon Y. Hart said the college community will meet to discuss the initial findings for the 2012 self-evaluation report.

“The college will continue working on updates to the Oct. 15 report, including a ‘hand-off’ report to the visiting team and the Dec. 31, 20-11 supplemental report to the commission,” she said.

Last week, a team from the accreditation commission led by Douglas Dykstra, Windward Community College chancellor, visited NMC campus.

With Dykstra were Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges associate vice president Norval Wellsfry, University of Guam senior vice president Dr. Helen Whippy, and Susan Murata from  Kapiolani Community College.

NMC accreditation liaison officer Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero said they are now preparing to submit a supplemental report in December.

Concerning the NMC president’s goal to offer online courses, Deleon Guerrero said the commission wants the program to be included in NMC  policy.

NMC is still under probation and is trying to address some concerns cited by the commission when NMC was placed on show-cause status.

By January 2012, the commission is expected to decide on NMC’s accreditation status.

In her report to the NMC board, Hart said she has worked with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and the National Center for Higher Education Management System to identify peer institutions against which the college would compare and benchmark itself for planning, budgeting,  resource allocation and performance purposes.
