2010 Assistive Technology Fair at Aqua Resort today

Pam C. Sablan, executive director for the CNMI Assistive Technology Program, told the Variety yesterday that the 2010 Assistive Technology Fair on Wednesday is in partnership with the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Sablan said the theme for the fair is “Funding Sources for Assistive Technology and/or Services.”

“We will be discussing funding options with individuals who need assistance in taking care of people with disabilities, and other concerns,” Sablan said.

There will also be presentations on loan programs that will assist people with disabilities on how to acquire assistive technology services and devices.

“The 2010 Assistive Technology Fair is more of a public awareness and campaign to provide the people with knowledge where to go for their specific needs,” Sablan said.

She did not specify how many private and government agencies will be joining today’s Fair but she said there will be representatives from the Center for Living Independently in the CNMI, the Public School System, the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Northern Marianas Protection Advocacy, and Northern Marianas College.

“Private health providers and vendors will also showcase exhibits on assistive technology equipment and related items,” Sablan said.

Events and presentations through the day will include assistive technology overview, Trankilu Alternative Financing Program, exhibitor display by vendors, assistive technology devices showcase, assistive technology demonstration, and Center for Independent Living/Call-a-Ride demonstration.
