23 slots for online master’s degree scholarship program

The scholarship is open to qualified students from the CNMI, American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Marshall Islands and Palau.

The goal of the scholarship is to promote long-term effectiveness of library services and information literacy in the Pacific region.

Jane Barnwell, director of of Library and Information Literacy Initiatives, Pacific Resources for Education and Learning, will co-direct the program along with Professor Yvonne Chandler from the University of North Texas Department of Library and Information Sciences.

The selected students will begin the master’s degree program in August 2011 and attend a nine-day Web Institute class at the College of Micronesia in Pohnpei.

The students will take online courses to complete the 36 hours required for the master’s degree during the two-year program. The University of North Texas will provide academic support and mentoring via videoconferencing and online communication throughout the program. The qualified students will graduate in Aug. 2013.
