Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan said applicants who will be accepted will work for the reading program at 12 elementary schools for the summer with a pay range from $7.71 to $9.16, depending on college credits earned.
Sablan said applicants must have completed at least two years of college, a U.S. citizen or national, and must be working toward a bachelor degree.
They must enjoy working with children and are interested in becoming a teacher.
“The 25 interns will be assigned in elementary school libraries helping elementary school students in a summer reading program designed to mitigate the learning loss that occurs across the long summer break,” Sablan said.
These interns will work under the supervision of a master teacher at each school.
“I hope that the educational opportunity that this internship provides will result in these college students completing their education and returning to the public schools to serve as classroom teachers,” Sablan said.
The deadline for submission of applications is on Friday, May 28.
Applicants must contact Tim Thornburgh of the PSS Federal Programs Office at 237-3065.
