3-day green energy symposium starts at the Hyatt tomorrow

Northern Marianas College program director Geri Lynn Willis yesterday said the symposium will be attended by individuals from American Samoa, Yap, Guam, Pohnpei, and other Pacific islands.

“The symposium will cover strategies and case studies, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and emphasis will be on planning and implementation on the final day on Thursday,” Willis said.

Tomorrow’s presentations will include perspectives on regional energy issues, an overview of the energy development on an island, the power of community, how Cuba survived the oil crisis, the business case for clean energy, integrated deployment of efficient energy and renewable energy in the U.S. Virgin Islands, initiatives and energy issues in the Pacific islands, Hawaii’s clean energy initiative, and utility scale renewable energy in Kodiak Island, Alaska.

Topics to be covered on Wednesday will include an overview of integrated power systems such as assessments, potentials and applications of wind, solar and geothermal energy sources, and waste-to-energy as biofuels, agriculture and landfill gas.

On Thursday, topics will include human capacity building, an overview of energy efficiency in the tropics, a case study of the Palau National Development Bank Energy Efficiency and Solar Strategy, financing and implementation approaches and challenges, consumer education advocacy, addressing project implementation challenges and a recap of the whole symposium.

There will be panel discussions and question and answer at the end of each day. For more information, visit www.edinenergy.org.
