Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said DPS received a call reporting that a burglary and theft incident was in progress in one of the houses in Chalan Kanoa District 3 at about 9:15 a.m.
Ogumoro said police officers who responded to the scene discovered that the three juveniles gained entry into the house by breaking a window in the bathroom window and back door. The house was occupied by a 72-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman.
One of the victims told the police that he left their home and when he returned five minutes before 9 a.m. he found that his home had been burglarized.
Ogumoro said responding officers searched the area near the crime scene after receiving reports from other responding police officers that they saw two male minors running into an abandoned building in Chalan Kanoa.
They found the two suspects hiding inside the building.
Ogumoro said one of the suspects tried to flee but police officers gave chase and arrested him.
Both suspects were brought in for questioning, and both confessed to committing the crime.
One of the two suspects eventually led the police detectives to their hideout where the other suspect, a 12-year-old male, was hiding.
Police recovered the stolen items which included canned goods, a ukulele, a black hat, a flashlight and rice.
