3 teenagers arrested for consuming alcohol, eluding arrest

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said a traffic officer was conducting highway enforcement on Beach Road at 1:25 a.m. on April 2 when he observed a white Toyota Tacoma traveling at a high speed.

Ogumoro said the pick-up was recklessly overtaking three other vehicles using the center lane heading toward north.

The traffic officer activated his emergency signal devices and chased the pick-up until it finally came to a stop outside a house in Garapan.

Ogumoro said patrol officers later arrived at the scene to assist the traffic officer.

She said police learned that the driver was 17 years old  while the two passengers were 19 years old.

All three had been drinking alcohol.

After submitting to a breathalyzer test,  the juvenile driver’s breath-alcohol concentration level reached .17 percent, or more than double the legal limit of .08 percent.

The driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, minor consuming alcohol, reckless driving and eluding a police officer.

He was later released to the Division of Youth Services.

The two male passengers were also arrested for minor consuming alcohol.

They were booked and detained at the Department of Corrections.
