30 days for domestic violence

Francisco Nakatsukasa Basa, 35, who entered a guilty plea to the offense of assault and battery involving domestic violence, received a six-month jail term, but all suspended except for 30 days with credit for the two days he already served at the Department of Corrections facility.

Manglona ordered Basa to report at Corrections on Jan. 2, 2011 to begin serving the remainder of his unsuspended sentence. He is expected to be released from prison on Jan. 30, 2011.

Upon release, Basa will be placed on six months supervised probation under the direction and supervision of the Adult Probation Office.

Basa was required to pay a $100 fine, a $25 court assessment fee, and a $60 probation fee.

He will complete 50 hours of community work service, report to the Community Guidance Center for an evaluation following release from custody, and obey all federal and CNM laws.

Assistant Attorney General Benjamin Petersburg prosecuted the case while Assistant Public Defender Douglas W. Hartig served as Basa’s counsel.

Basa, who was convicted in 2006 of conspiracy to distribute “ice,” was under federal probation when he assaulted his wife last May.
