30 to receive Motheread/Fatheread course completion awards tomorrow

Bryan Manabat of the CNMI program said the 30 participants who will complete the program are from the five Head Start centers on Saipan — 10 from Garapan Head Start Center, three from Dandan Head Start Center, six from San Antonio Head Start Center, six from Oleai Head Start, and five from Chalan Kanoa Head Start Center.

Manabat said the ceremony will include skits and presentations, remarks by CNMI Motheread/Fatheread coordinator Viola S. Deleon Guerrero, and Head Start Policy Council Chairman Vinnie Sablan.

The program trainers will also be attending the program, Manabat said.

Motheread is a nationally acclaimed private, non-profit organization offers classes for both adults and children. In adult classes, participants learn to be story readers, writers and tellers in a group structure. For children, story exploring provides a structured environment for learning, reading, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

The Motheread/Fatheread Family Literacy Program is in collaboration with the CNMI Head Start Program and the Northern Marianas Humanities Council.

The spring schedule for the Motheread program is scheduled for March 5, 2012 at Tanapag Head Start and Kagman Head Start under Celina Foreman and Leila Staffler; March 6 at  Dandan Head Start and San Antonio Head Start under Wilma Atalig and Nolyn Villagomez; March 7 at  Oleai Head Start, Chalan Kanoa and at Sinapalo Head Start on Rota under trainers Beth Demapan, Elenita Arriola and Bryan Manabat, and Mary Lynn Ogo; March 8 at Garapan Head Start under trainers Lilia King and Viola Deleon Guerrero; Tinian Head Start under trainers Lorna Hofschneider and Evelyn Evangelista; and Songsong Head Start under Joann San Nicolas.
