4 appropriation bills signed into law

FOUR of the five pieces of legislation signed into law by Gov. Juan N. Babauta yesterday are appropriation measures that will fund several key infrastructure projects on Saipan.

House Local Bill 13-4 appropriates $1.081 million from poker fees.

The local bill, introduced by House Floor Leader Jesus T. Attao, R-Saipan, earmarks the following:

• $600,000 for the Saipan Street Naming Commission. It also gives the mayor of Saipan expenditure authority.

• $120,000 for the operational cost, renovation and improvement of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council building.

• $101,000 for the operation of the Commonwealth Museum.

• $250,000 for the mayor’s personnel and operational costs.

• and $10,000 for Saipan Sport Fishermen Sport Association.

The governor also signed H.L.B. 13-11 into local law. It appropriate s $147,460 for Gualo Rai sewer distribution lines.

H.L.B. 13-1 was likewise signed into local law. It appropriates $50,000 for the Northern Islands mayor’s operational cost; $90,000 for tractor mowers; $55,000 for riding mowers; $20,000 for tractor attachment; $135,000 for dump trucks; and $50,000 for pick-up trucks. The new local law gives the Department of Public Works expenditure authority over these funds.

Another new local law appropriates $185,000 for the walkway cover at San Antonio Elementary School.
