FORTY-FIVE middle and high school students on Tinian have completed financial and digital literacy certification courses.
The Tinian high school students who received their certification on Intuit Personal Finance during an awarding ceremony in the school cafeteria on Monday were Ainsley P. Ancheta, Yeesha Faith Margarette D. Cajilla, Jun Y. Chen, Aiden Jay V. Castro, Amovy Stephen J. Lagunay, Jake T. Moncada, John Peter S. Sablan, Dylan C. Subia, Hitomi I. Suzuki, Israt Jareen Iqra J. Syed, Eric Z. Zhou, Jarry Su and Marcial Ramos Patio.
Their teacher was Island Training Solutions instructor Arnel A. Gruspe, with Grace Santos serving as their co-teacher.
The financial and digital literacy certification courses are a Public School System-Career and Technical Education Program conducted in partnership with Island Training Solutions. This partnership is funded by a consolidated grant awarded to PSS by the federal government. The grant is administered by the PSS Federal Programs Office.
Presentations
Before receiving their certificates, the students presented their projects.
Lagunay discussed his loan amortization project, which involves a bank loan and the required monthly payments.
Su discussed straight-line depreciation, explaining that a $5,000 piece of equipment can lose its value over five years.
Subia used the Investopedia Stock Market Simulator to present his stock market investment project. He explained how to buy stocks, monitor the market, and determine the right time to sell.
Zhou also used Investopedia to demonstrate how cryptocurrency trading works, specifically with Ethereum and Bitcoin.
Digital literacy
The middle school students who received their certification on IC3 Spark Digital Literacy were divided into two sections.
Those who belonged to Section 1 were Amorisha Vianie M. Arriola, Nevaeh Dawn M. Cabrera, Piper R. Christian, Carther Joe S. Cruz, Chates Aslan P. Epity, Amina Fajamida V. Hossain, Janean F. King, Kobe John C. King, Kate A. Mahilum, Kinie Faith S. Norech, Carley Isabella Rodriguez-Cabrera, Ka’isa Fu’una P. San Nicolas, Paige Soleil M. Sandbergen, Phillip W. Santos, Jun Young Seo, and Cian Jey E. Sylvestre.
Their instructor was Ruby Panoy and the co-teachers were Grace Santos and Tracy Sanchez.
The Section 2 students, under instructor Gruspe, were Jamaica Marley S. Adriano, Zack Darius H. Aldan, Calen S. Borja, Niesa Andrea F. Borja, Triannalin Joan C. Cangco, Alice Chen, Kai’ani Joanita C. Dela Cruz, Emar Jacob A. Gammad, Celeste K. Monkeya, Austin Jeremy L. Muna, Dai’laures S. Pangelinan, Precila Anne N. Roldan, Nusrat Jeren Esha J. Syed, Galyug Joseph M. Untalan, Tania Jeriana C. Untalan and Cathy Xia.
Their co-teachers were also Grace Santos and Tracy Sanchez.
Gruspe is a systems integrator and STEM educator recently accredited by UK-based Micro:bit Educational Foundation. He shares his knowledge and skills through project-based learning that uses real-world examples.
“These projects prepared the students with the fundamentals of financial literacy to face the challenges after graduation from high school,” Gruspe said.
