Defendants Geraldine Marie Sanchez, Ray Anthony Lizama Babauta, John Sanchez, and Marcelino Carlos appeared before Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert Naraja during their arraignment Monday.
Assistant Attorney General Joseph Przyuski is prosecuting the case, while Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig represented the defendants.
Sanchez, 29, is facing one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, one count of a sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the third degree, and one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the fourth degree.
The complaint said Sanchez had sex with a 15-year-old male between August and the first week of Sept. 2009.
The AG’s office charged Babauta, 37, with one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, one count of child abuse, and one count of obstructing justice.
Between February and March and from August to Sept. 2008, Babauta sexually abused a then-13-year-old girl, and “unlawfully tamper[ed] with a witness,” the AGO stated.
32-year-old Sanchez is facing one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree and one count of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.
According to the complaint, Sanchez had sex with his female victim, who was then 14, in July 2007, and in Sept. 2008, when the victim moved to his residence.
Carlos, 39, is facing three counts of sexual abuse of two female minors in the first degree sometime in 2001, when the first victim was 13, and with a 16-year-old girl on Dec. 8, 2009. The abuses occurred while the victims and the defendant were residing in the same house.
