SIX students received recently their diplomas in associate in health degree from Eucon International College—the island’s first private college—days after the State Board of Regents reinstated its provisional license to operate.
Agnes M. McPhetres, the first president of Northern Marianas College was the guest speaker at Eucon’s first graduation ceremony. She praised Eucon President Christian Wei for his commitment to maintain the college despite numerous obstacles.
McPhetres now acts as adviser for Eucon.
She said Wei is a dreamer who never quits despite the challenges and obstacles along his path toward accomplishing his dream of establishing a private college in the CNMI
“I wonder how many of us realize what Dr. Wei had to go through in order for us to be here today,” she said. “It happened because Dr. Wei cares. He wants to see that each and every one of you are provided with excellent higher educational opportunity and experience while you are at Eucon. He believes that each and every one of you will make a difference in the world we live in,” McPhetres said.
In March, Eucon was stripped of its provisional license to operate due to its alleged insufficient educational facilities.
But this month, Eucon got back its license which is valid for seven months. (See related story next page)
McPhetres told Eucon’s first graduates that had it not been for Wei’s patience they would not be able to get their diplomas.
She urged the graduates to pursue their dreams despite obstacles.
“I urge you to go out and make your impossible dreams come true. You will probably face all kinds of challenges and obstacles as Dr. Wei did. But I know that you will overcome them in your own way. Believe it or not, you played a major role in helping Dr. Wei make his dream come true,” McPhetres said.
“You helped him by being very patient and trusting and having faith that Eucon would be the college that it is today,” she added.
