A nation in social turmoil

Anglimp-South Waghi MP Jamie Maxtone-Graham said the government failed to address issues that are at the heart of the community — population growth, unemployment and rural-urban drift.

These problems have a potential of “blowing up in our faces” if not adequately addressed.

“We cannot pretend that there is no problem because there is and we need to deal with it immediately,” he said.

He believed that Parliament must establish a ministerial task force to adequately address these social issues that had been created as a result of development.

Maxton-Graham urged the government to immediately implement corrective measures that would allow people to enjoy the political and economic stability that the country was now experiencing.
