THE Tinian legislative delegation may ask the government to pay a portion of Tinian Shipping’s $600,000 debt to World Fame Shipping Ltd.
World Fame’s lawsuit against Tinian Shipping resulted in the seizure of its two ferries by the U.S. Marshalls.
Senate Floor Leader Joaquin G. Adriano, D-Tinian and the delegation chairman, said they will meet with Gov. Juan N. Babauta and “see if we could help financially to release the ferries.”
“I understand that officials of the Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino went to Hong Kong to put up a partial payment of the $600,000 but the court denied it. So we will see if the government could help them shoulder the payment,” Adriano said.
The U.S. Marshals on Thursday seized the two ferries following the court’s issuance of warrants for the arrest of the vessels.
Adriano said the delegation will discuss with Babauta the possible sources of money. But Adriano said long-term plans to address transportation problems should also be discussed. He said they will see if it is also possible to subsidize the operations of the ferry.
