WITH barely a week before graduation, senior students at Marianas High School are already preparing for their future once they get their secondary education diplomas.
Most of them want to go on vacation this summer to prepare themselves for the greater challenges that lie ahead.
Still, others are already trying to get employed and save money for college.
Amy Aiken, who is among the 300 MHS students who will graduate next week, will spend summer working at Hollywood Theater as floorwalker.
Aiken wants to save as much as she can to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.
Elaine Larin, another graduating student, said she will search for a job this summer to increase her allowance for the coming opening of college classes in August.
“I want to find a job and save money for college. I am the second to the eldest in our family,” she said.
Larin, 17, wants to enroll at Northern Marianas College where she might take up a degree in elementary education. She has always wanted to become a teacher.
“I want to teach. I get along well with young kids. I think teaching is the best way to impart to others what you have learned in school,” she said.
A Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps cadet, who requested not to be identified, said he will spend the next six months resting while waiting for the U.S. military’s call to report for duty.
The student said he was already admitted to the Army. He is scheduled to leave the island in January.
The outgoing JROTC battalion commander of MHS, Cadet Col. Cheryl Lolemei Ingereklii, also intends to join the military.
