Agape school temporarily stops accepting students from China

Three students from China were supposed to enroll at ACS this semester, but Pang said they advised the parents not to send the students to Saipan until further notice.

“We just want to protect ourselves and the people on the island from the disease,” Pang said in an interview, referring to the novel coronavirus outbreak in China.

Annually, about 20 to 30 students from China enroll at ACS, which currently has a total of 140 students.

Pang said of this number, 102 are staying in the school dormitory.

“For those students staying in our dormitory right now, we don’t allow them to go outside, especially in a crowded place. We don’t allow them to mingle with tourists,” he said, adding that school staff members are taking care of the students’ needs.

On campus, he said hand sanitizers have been provided to students, and students and teachers wear face masks.

Pang said these measures were implemented before the Chinese New Year on Jan. 25.
