Aggreko provides relief to Power Plant 4

CUC Executive Director Antonio S. Muna said engines 3, 6 and 8 of Power Plant 1 are online and “are meeting the 40-megawatt power consumption demand” on Saipan.

He said CUC is still in the process of bidding out the repair and rehabilitation of the other engines at Power Plant 1.

Muna said they were assured that interconnection will not be interrupted when Aggreko’s units are subjected to maintenance.

Aggreko, which will get $6 million a year from CUC, will be coordinating with the agency a when maintenance is conducted.

The maintenance will be conducted when the demand of power supply is low, Munda said.

At the Aggreko power depot in Lower Base, an engineer, who declined to be identified, told Variety they have stand-by and spare generators that can be used to continue the interconnection with CUC when they subject some of the generators to periodic maintenance.

The engineer declined to comment whether their Aggreko engines are in compliance with federal regulations.

A power specialist who also declined to be identified said Power Plant 4, which is run by Pacific Marine & Industrial Corp., has four Aggreko units that were installed in 2002.

These units undergo preventive maintenance and adjustment every 320 hours of operation, and every 1,500 hours thereafter, he said.

Power Plant 4’s Aggreko units are shut down during the off-peak period when the CUC-Aggreko interconnection in Lower Base is producing enough power.

Power Plant 4 is still producing between eight to 10 megawatts during that period.

It generates a maximum of 15 megawatts.

Power Plant 4’s four Aggreko units are producing one megawatt each and are similar to the Aggreko units in Lower Base.
