AGO has 3 new lawyers

ATTORNEY General Robert T. Torres announced yesterday the hiring of three new assistant attorneys general—Joe Bermudez, Peggy Campbell and Don Wolfe.

“The public will be served by their talents and efforts,” Torres told Variety. The three are “local hires,” he added.

Bermudez will work on the federal grants from the Department of the Interior. He will also handle cases, policies and regulation for the Department of Labor and Immigration, Torres said.

Bermudez served as clerk for the Superior Court and the Supreme Court. He is a former teacher at Marianas High School and Northern Marianas College.

Campbell will be assigned to AGO’s Civil Division where she will handle environmental matters. She will provide legal advice to the Division of Environmental Quality, the Coastal Resources Management, the Department of Lands and Natural Resources, including the Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Campbell will also work on issues dealing with Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

Campbell formally worked for the Interior Department’s Labor Ombudsman’s Office on Saipan and as law clerk of federal court Judge Alex Munson.

Wolfe will join AGO’s Criminal Division as a prosecutor.

Torres said AGO still needs more lawyers, adding that the vacancies will be filled immediately. There are five vacancies at the Civil Division, and one slot needed for Labor and Immigration, he said.
