AGO to review all government contracts

Buckingham, in an interview, said the review of contracts whether for employment or implementation of government projects can now be done in three business days.

This speedy process, he said, is not how it used to be.

Esther San Nicolas, the AGO’s legal secretary, said  the review of contracts should not take too long.

Doing it faster, she said, is just a matter of a hard work which she added, is what she sees the AG is doing.

Buckingham said all contracts are now logged in and scanned for record as soon as his office receives them.

Each contract, after being reviewed by an assistant attorney general, will be submitted to him “with a review that recommends either approval or disapproval with reasons stated.”

“My expectation is that we approve contracts or send the agency a letter of disapproval including any reason for disapproval, within three business days,” the AG said.

Buckingham assured that acting on contracts in three days will not necessarily mean some will be given special treatment.

“This standard applies to all contracts,” he added.

“We don’t hold things up and we ensure that at least two lawyers look at every contract submitted to the [AGO].”
