ALL four contestants in the Voice of the Marianas Foundation’s Harmony in the Community singing contest brought home $100 each after winning the competition at Kagman Community Center on Saturday.

The contestants are 10-year-old Juliana Kai Ortiz, who sang Celine Dion’s rendition of John Lennon’s “Happy Christmas (War is Over)”; 14-year-old Justin Tubiera, who played his guitar and sang a mashup of “Why Kiki,” “Love Me” and “Dream Girl”; 8-year-old Francine Pineda, who sang Auli’i’s “How Far I’ll Go”; and 12-year-old Jaelynn Dosha Lisua, who performed Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know.”

The judges were local musical artists Tom Basa and John Sablan.

Precinct 5 Reps. Thomas John Manglona and Angelo Camacho were the guests of honor.

Manglona said he welcomes the Voice of the Marianas Foundation’s effort in bringing the talent show to the villages.

“Honestly, we need more activities like this for our kids, you know, outside of school, that also encourages singing and the arts. So, when they came to us asking for support to come here to the village, it’s automatic,” he said.

Camacho thanked the foundation for holding the event in Kagman.

“I just want to say that it’s a great experience for our community to have this kind of opportunity and I hope we can continue this. I am very excited that they mentioned they are going to go around the villages to do another round and have contestants from each village to compete,” Camacho said.
