All set for 6th Annual Parade of Books

Parade of Books coordinator Elly Stoilova said the number of participants is now final.

“We have 14 schools that will be performing and we are very happy with the positive response to our invitation. This is more than double the number of participants that we had last year,” Stoilova said.

She is urging the community and the participants to be on time because the event will start at 2 p.m. on March 27.

Guests from Japan, including six Rotarians who are also among the sponsors, will be coming over for the event.

The annual Parade of Books event is designed to promote literacy and reading among students in CNMI schools.

The participating schools:

1. San Vicente Elementary School – “Alice in Wonderland”

2. San Antonio Elementary School – “Abiyoyo”

3. Garapan Elementary School – “Sleeping Beauty”

4. GTC – “Hemplon Nana Siha” (Chamorro legends)

5. Mount Carmel School – “Frederick”

6. Tinian Elementary School – “The Great Kapok Tree”

7. Koblerville Elementary School – “Aladdin”

8. Chacha Oceanview Jr. High (6th graders) – “Alice in Wonderland”

9. Sinapalo Elementary School (Rota) – “Sody Salletarus”

10. Oleai Elementary School – “101 Dalmatians”

11. Kagman Elementary School – “The Umbrella”

12. Golden Harvest – “Beauty and the Beast”

13. Green Meadow School – “Away is a Strange Place to Be”

14. Grace Christian School – “The Pirates of the Caribbean”

The presentation of awards will start at 4:45 p.m.

The awards will be handed out to the winners by representatives from the Marianas Variety, Pacific Islands Club, DFS Galleria, Freedom Air, MHS Productions Club, Kishiwada North, and Delta Airlines.

Up for grabs are $1,000 for the first placer and $750, $500, $300, and $200 for the second to fifth placers. Participants who do not make it to the top five will be given consolation prizes of $100 each.

The “Best Spirit Award” winner will get 30 water passes from PIC. An overnight stay for two at PIC is also at stake for the Best Director/Producer Award.
