CNMI AmeriCorps Director Geri Willis visited Sinapalo Elementary School where the members and volunteers attended an orientation on book reading.
Willis, in an e-mail, said aside from the “Read Aloud” lessons, they also held activities related to the books being read to the children.
AmeriCorps is a federal program that aims to “help communities solve problems in education, public safety, environment and other human needs by serving and getting people serve as volunteers.”
The local AmeriCorps members who participated in the orientation were Charlene Manglona, Leonila Sablan, Johora Paeda and Ronica Atalig.
The participating AmeriCorps volunteers were Beatrice Mesngon and Martin Taimanao.
The AmeriCorps site supervisor is Vanessa Hocog while Geraldine Dela Cruz is the reading resource teacher.
The book presented was “Me and My Senses” by Joan Sweeney and illustrated by Annette Cable.
Willis said the students, with the assistance and guidance of the AmeriCorps members and volunteers, drew pictures to illustrate various senses.
