Another minor caught sniffing butane

ANOTHER minor was caught sniffing butane.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Pete C. Muna said a police officer saw the 14-year-old boy inhaling butane behind the former Happy Market building in San Jose on Thursday.

Muna said the boy admitted he was inhaling butane when the officer confronted him.

A witness called the police after he saw the boy inhaling the gas. The officer noticed that the boy had his face inside his shirt. When the officer checked the boy, a gas canister was found.

The boy’s chest was wet.

The witness told the police that it was not the first time he saw the boy inhaling butane.

On Friday, Public Safety Commissioner Edward Camacho said he would push for a “stronger” law to address the butane abuse problem, which according to him has become an epidemic in the CNMI. Over the past two months, many juveniles were caught sniffing butane on Saipan.
