CNMI Military and Veterans Affairs executive director Ruth Coleman said Malcolm Weidner of Gualo Rai is the fifth veteran who will be buried at the Veterans Cemetery this year.
“Weidner is a retiree who served the Navy for 30 years. He stayed on Saipan until he died from illness,” Coleman said.
She is once again inviting the community, especially the veterans to be there and show their support for a comrade who has passed away.
In related news, Coleman said some final details are taking time to be ironed out for the opening of a Veterans Affairs Clinic on island.
Veterans and their families had been anticipating the opening of a clinic. It was scheduled to be opened in September last year yet but there were some “glitches” that have to be addressed.
Having a VA clinic here will spare the veterans from having to wait for medical referral, spend money and make trips to Guam or other places to avail of basic medical services.
The CNMI is home to over a thousand veterans, with over 900 on Saipan and the rest residing on Tinian and Rota.
