April is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month

Prevention Month, the governor said parents should have the necessary support skills and knowledge to raise and nurture strong, health children.

Division of Youth Services Director Calvani P. Deleon Guerrero, in his remarks, said “child Abuse is a community problem — if we close our eyes to this problem, it will continue, and the children will continue to be the victims.”

Staff from DYS, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, service providers and agencies working collaboratively with DYS witnessed the signing of the proclamation.

DYS said it will hold parent development workshops, presentations at schools and Head Start Centers throughout this month.

The activities will include family oriented events like Big Truck Day.

DYS said it will announce its schedule of events at a later date.

These activities, it added, will help raise the public’s awareness regarding child abuse and neglect while empowering families and strengthening their abilities to raise and nurture their children well.
